And humans are supposedly hard wired to want to pass on their DNA as well. Well, it turns out some of us are hard wired to not want sex and to not want children. The author isn't just saying that due to belonging to both, though someone who belongs to one community and not the other might have a harder time finding the similarities and someone who doesn't belong to either community might have a downright difficult time finding the similarities at all.

Myth: Asexuality is just a phase.
Fact: Asexuality is just like any other sexual orientation (minus the sexual attraction), in that one is born Asexual, a phase is something a person grows out of, such as the 'goth' or 'punk' phase during the teen years as an example.

Myth: Asexuals just haven't met the right person yet.
Fact: Asexuals may want a romantic relationship (this author included), just without the sex. Also, this is similar to the myth or 'bingo' as it's called in the childfree community, that a childfree person just hasn't found the right person to have children with. Furthermore, Asexuals can and do have sex, despite not having sexual attraction to either gender.

Asexuals are not widely known. The readers to the site probably already know this, but a lack of official regonition also means a lack of mention in sex education. A comment on the Asexual News facebook page asked why there was no mention of Asexuality in Sex Education classes.
Professionals involved in sex education are still not aware of Asexuals and Asexuality. Even if they are, there is a lack of official recognition, which Dallas Bryson, the Asexual Sexologist attributes this to a lack of official recognition. Visitors to her website can find pictures relating to Asexuality in some of her course textbooks.

There apparently is a myth that Asexuals were sexually abused as children. While there undoubtedly are some Asexuals who were sexually abused as children, the same can be said of sexuals. It's a ridiculous notion to suggest that seuxal abuse in childhood is the only-or at least, primary cause of someone being Asexual.
