Asexuals Should Know What SAGE Is

Even LGBT blogs tend to focus on issues facing their youth more than they focus on issues facing their elderly.

The number of younger people in the Asexual community greatly outnumbers the number of people who are over thirty years old. This is to be expected for a group of people that communicates mostly online, but it is not a trend that will last forever. SAGE, like other LGBT organizations, does not deal with Asexual issues. It may or may not know that such a group exists.

Aces should know what the organization does. It serves elderly members of the LGBT community, and makes sure that Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender elders are treated well in nusring homes. Many Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender senior citizens are mistreated by nursing home staff or other residents.

No one knows how many Asexual patients are currnelty in nursing homes or knows what the problems they might face are. People only recently started using the word Asexuality to apply to a human sexual orientation. Older Aces are more likely to be forgotten and have fewer family members. The concern is that the older members of the community may be lost or forgotten in the system.

The larger organizations have neglected to address the issue. A few bloggers and podcasters mention it, but no one has really addressed the issue. The organization may or may not address the issue, but even if they do not want to address the issue, members of Asexual organizations need to start thinking about the future.
