Pharmaceutical companies have sold hormone replacement therapy to post-menopausal women for many years. The drug companies have found a new target fort hormone replacement therapy. Older men are now being sold testosterone. Drug companies are promising a better sex drive and more energy. They are calling the condition low T.
Marketing agencies often use sex to sell products to men. They do it because it works for a large percentage of the population. The marketing agencies job is to convince people of the need for a product, unfortunately the drug companies are not always concerned about whether or not there is a real need for their product. Low T is as problematic as Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder.
People naturally experience a declining sex drive as they get older. Many of the commericals attempting to get older men to seek treatment for Low T assume that all men are sexual. While it is true that men, in general, have a larger sex drive than women, it is also true that some men do not have a sex drive. Other men have a sex drive and do not experience sexual attraction.
Medical experts do not agree that lower testosterone in older men is a problem that needs to be treated medically. Some doctors believe that it would be better to focus on lifestyle issues rather than attempt to restore an older man's testosterone levels to a younger man's levels.
Testosterone gels designed for older men are not marketed toward Asexuals, and it is unlikely it will be used as a form of reparative therapy. Gay men were at one time given testosterone to boost their attraction to women, but doctors found out that this plan did not work.
