Psychology Today blogger De Paulo comments on Asexual Teen Romance

No one will pretend Asexual dating is an easy topic. Confusion abound in teenage dating regardless of a person's sexual orientation. A recent Psychology Today blog acknowledged the problems Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Asexual teenagers face

Bella De Paulo wrote about teenage romance and did not include Asexuals in her original conclusion. She asserts that teenage romantic Asexuals will suffer depression just as the other orientations will, but Bella De Paullo found the effects were more marked in Asexual teenagers. Additional problems include increased alcohol abuse in people under the age of 18 who become romantically involved.

De Paulo only offers one piece of advice for teenagers to help them avoid romance-related depression. She recommends that teenagers of any orientation not get involved in relationships. Aromantic Asexuals will probably have no problem following this advice. Crushes among those who experience Romantic attraction seldom respond to common sense. Her column offers few solutions to the problems of teenage romance.
