Stephanie Silberstein seeks help furthering study of sucide, depression in the Asexual community

Stephanie Silberstein, offer of Shades of Gay, seeks help in collecting stories from Asexuals who have attempted suicide or people who know Asexuals have attempted suicide. The study of Asexuality in academic circles has focused on issues that matter more to sexuals than to the community itself. A highly unofficial and non-scientific poll conducted on AVEN produced yielded unexpected results.

Asexuals, on the whole, have not looked inward to face the issues affecting members of their own community yet. Unlike the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender communities, Asexuals only have ten years of experience to draw on and have not yet fully realized what all of those problems were. Psychiatrists may tend to view Asexuality as a part of the medical profession, but Asexuals suffer from mental illnesses and disorders just as other segments of the populations do.

Silberstein's project aims to bring light on the issue by sharing a personal project. In order to preserve the privacy of the people, real names should not be used. Anyone who wants to participate in the project can use This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . Asexual News does not yet know where she plans to publish the final form of the project.

Silberstein owns Narrow Path Publishing and was the subject of an interview with Asexual News several months ago.
