Allen Frances demotes DSM-5 from Bible to Guidebook

The American Psychiatric Association plans to publish the DSM-5 despite the reservations many people have about the document. Doctor Allen Frances, head of the DSM-IV task force, has decried this decision. His latest criticism gives the DSM-5 a demotion from its previous designation. He makes sure that his readers know that he does not consider it a bible. Frances says it might be a useful tool if its ten worst flaws are overlooked.

Throughout the process, Frances has criticized the American Psychiatric Association for its lack of openness, the lack of science, and even the way the decisions are made. The doctor did not make a point of listing all of the flaws with the new book. He does not even criticize the book for its numerous conflicts of interest.

Jenni Goodchild's Boyfriend Should Be Praised for His Courage

Jenni Goodchild has attracted a lot of attention since her appearance on How Sex Works. Even more important is the attention her boyfriend has received. A number of sites have taken pity on him or criticized him for being friend-zoned. The friend zone may or may not be a modern concept, but it is more accurately referred to as unrequited lust.

Unrequited lust is not a new concept, but it seems the people who chose to comment on the relationship between Goodchild and her boyfriend are projecting their own desires onto the couple. It speaks more to the individual experiences of the people who take pity on them than it does to their relationship.

The DSM-5 is being pushed forward despite the controversy and the problem with the current edition. Some of the changes, including moving Asperger’s Syndrome into the Autism Spectrum Disorder, do not have much support. Mood Dysregulation Disorder made it into the manual despite concerns that it would increase the number of children on medication.

Perhaps the most telling criticism comes from the British Psychological Society. Members of the society believed that the new diagnostic manual expanded the range of diseases to include normal human behavior. Allen Frances, the head of the DSM-IV task force called the book a disgrace.

The amount of gender bending that occurs in the Asexual community alone makes this an interesting phenomenon. Even though over four percent of Asexuals identify as transgender, this has not caught the attention of most members of the media.

HuffPo Live Addresses Issues of Romantic Asexuals

HuffPo live explored the issues surrounding Asexuality, but the host focused on the issues surrounding Asexuality and relationships. While romantic relationships are important to some Asexuals, they do not realize that other Asexuals would rather remain single.

While many people are excited over the coverage, it ignores the existence of Aromantics, and it causes people to assume that all Asexual people want to enter into romantic relationships. The host of this segment did not let viewers know that they would be focusing on Asexual romantic relationships and how they work.
