Dan Savage's August 17th column does not contain his previous anti-Asexual rhetoric. Asexuals read it expecting to be offended. Savage's response surprised Asexuals, many of whom harbor a long-standing grudge against the Seattle-based columnist. A letter writer calling himself Does LGBT need an A asked Savage if he should confront an Asexual friend about his identity.
Does LGBT need an A's letter did not involve a sexual relationship problem. Savage's previous columns mentioning Asexuals all dealt with people experiencing relationship problems. DLNAA asked if he should confront a friend about identifying as Asexual. The letter writer wondered if his friend needed a therapist.

The person who posted this article on the site has never heard this one personally, but many of Asexual News's readers who are female probably have. "You're Lesbian" or "You're Gay" is also a space on the Sexual bingo card.

Well, to this author anyway. Basically someone commented "that they always question someone's hormonal health when people tell them* that they're Asexual. Then goes on to suggest that Asexuals should get scanned to make sure there isn't something growing on one's thyroid that isn't making one not care about sex at all.
And while there are undoutedly, Asexuals who have thyroid cancer, to suggest that thyroid cancer causes Asexuality is just as ridiculous as suggesting depression or Autism causes Asexuality. Furthermore, would anyone say the same about thyroid cancer causing homosexuality or bisexuality? Not to mention, there are no studies (that the author is aware of), that even speak of a correlation between thyroid cancer and Asexuality.

Laura Brashier deserves credit for creating a dating site for people who do not want to have sex in their relationship. The woman surived a horrible disease and has very good reasons for deciding not to engage in sex. Brashier cannot be blamed for the media presentation of her website as the first dating site to cater to people who do not want physical relationships. Bloggers and reporters who cover this story have far more to do with how her site 2date4love is portrayed.
