The DSM-5 added extended grief disorder to the personality disorders several months ago. The Guardian, which may or may not have been following all of the controversies surrounding the manual, realized that this new disorder is good news for big pharmaceutical companies. Extended grief syndrome is one example of the book defining what psychologist organizations have referred to as normal behavior as a disease. A psychiatrist can diagnose a patient with the disorder in as little as six weeks after the death of a loved one.
The Guardian reporter who wrote the article may or may not have known that ABC News already reported that 70% of the DSM 5 committee members have ties to drug companies that lead to potential conflicts of interest. The Guardian reporter lags behind other commentators, such as Allen Frances, who suggested the DSM 5 committee go back to the drawing board.

Nearly half a dozen AVEN administrators and moderators resigned last week. Bipolar Bear said that the resignation occurred because of a lack of team cohesion and leadership. While the stated reasons played a role in the decision to resign, it is more likely the result of a political split within the Asexual Visibility and Education Network.
Even something as simple as an Internet message board is not free of politics. The real reason may never be known. It would require one of the current or former moderators to break agreements they made when they took on the position.

Asexuals Among Us appeared in the Advocate yesterday. Bering’s essay originally appeared in Scientific American in 2009. What surprised everyone is that no one knew about the publication of it in book form until it appeared in The Advocate and on Amazon.com.
The version that appears in the LGBT publication repeats the mistakes that the original article did, despite improvements to the grammar and the wording of the original article. What no one knows and what many people are speculating about is why the article appeared in such a publication in the first place.

Asexuals who use Tumblr know that it is a good place to connect with other Aces. It has a different tone than AVEN. Whether the different tone is good or bad often depends on who is doing the commentary. Asexual bloggers who are not on Tumblr or who did not start there have accused the microblogging platform of killing the Asexual blogosphere. This seems strange as many Blogspot and Wordpress Asexual blogs are still active. Personal blogs do not get the attention of impersonal blogs. This is due, in part, to their lmited audience.
The limited audience factor is also true for Tumblr, although there is one key difference. Tumblr allows users to search through for topics of interest using hashtags. Blogspot and Wordpress allow a similar functionality, but they allow this only for a single blog. This allows Tumblr users to have their ideas, odd though they may be at times, viewed by many more people than would view a traditional blog. The software combines blogging features with the features of social networking sites.

Even LGBT blogs tend to focus on issues facing their youth more than they focus on issues facing their elderly.
The number of younger people in the Asexual community greatly outnumbers the number of people who are over thirty years old. This is to be expected for a group of people that communicates mostly online, but it is not a trend that will last forever. SAGE, like other LGBT organizations, does not deal with Asexual issues. It may or may not know that such a group exists.
