AVEN's recent decision about an Aromantic forum is difficult to follow and understand. Henrik, an Asexual News writer, covered it here. The decision shows a growing problem. Aromantics are having a harder time making their voice heard.
The basic logic behind AVEN's decision is lacking. There is another element missing. The other forums did not fail because that site has the largest voice. They failed because their owners did not understand website promotion. The websites failed because people did not stick with them long enough and perform the necessary search engine optimization.
Walling off the community also failed as an argument. The Grey Asexual forum did not wall off the community, any more than the over 30 forum did. Providing a separate place for Aromantics to discuss their issues simply continues AVEN's policy of inclusion. The organization used to have a policy of inclusion.
Too many romantic voices currently comprised the administrator and moderator team of AVEN. The democratic nature of the organization usually prevents this issue. Even the handling of the accusation of bias did not go well. Having people who are not Romantic making the decision does not mean that the decision was not motivated by the preferences of the romantics.
AVEN needs to go back and revisit its decision. It's a symptom of a larger problem. Too many people are forgetting that Aromantics exist at all. If this continues to be policy, the organization will lose one of its most important voices.

Asexuals will have heard this argument before. The words are slightly different, but Transgender people have been accepted into the LGBT acronym for many years. Asexuals are still unsure whether they belong in the grouping or not.
The actual content of the video starts at about 3:35. The initial few minutes are used to recruit people to make videos for this particular channel. Not every topic discussed is an exact parallel. Asexuality is about who a person does or does not want to sleep with, while someone who being transgender is often about how a person appears before the world.

Even people who are otherwise secure in their sexuality may question it from time to time. This video explores how to deal with it. The speaker goes quicky and is hard to understand at times, but this video can give someone indespensable tips on how to deal with questions about marriage, children and other assorted items at family gatherings.
Visitors who watch this video will find it easier to understand if they reduce the background noise in their listening environment.

Asexuals recruit young Gays and Lesbians who are looking for ways to avoid internalized homophobia. The charge itself seems to be ridiculous. The statement might have been made by extreme social conservatives. This extreme rhetoric has appeared less often in recent years.
Such accusations came out after the Trevor project announced that it would include Asexuality into its training materials. People who made these accusations may have confused people who identify as Asexual with a political Antisexual movement. The political movement exists entirely in other countries, but Americans are unlikely to have heard of the Antisexual movement.
Proponents of this particular idea did not see the irony in the accusation. It is another example of internal politics and some of the tension that exists between Aces and certain segments of the LGBT movement.
AVEN founder David Jay provided an answer to this charge several years ago during a United States media blitz. He told several hosts that people who come onto AVEN are encouraged to explore their sexuality, especially if they are not sure.
