Johnny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu will star in Elementary, CBS’s modern-day adaptation of Sherlock Holmes. Aidan Quinn will join the cast as Captain Gregson of the New York City Police Department. Gregson will invite the world’s first consulting detective to New York because he has worked with him at Scotland Yard in the past.
The decision to cast Lucy Liu as Doctor Watson may mean the American version of the show will take the character away from his Asexual roots. Sherlock’s producers have threatened legal action against Elementary’s producers if the show is too close to its modern adaptation.
Elementary will not air until early September. Many people believe the show will take the form of a procedural crime drama. Fans worry that there were be little to distinguish it from NCIS, the Mentalist, and similar shows.
Fans will have to wait for the first few episodes to air to know if CBS's Holmes-inspired drama will face legal action. Asexuals must be patient. American television may turn Holmes into a highly sexual being. If the writers and producers go this route, they may avoid making the same gaffe Steven Moffat made when commenting about his character.
