Doctor Who Convention Held Yesterday in Cardiff

U.S. Science fiction fans can enjoy comic bookand Star Trek conventions at almost any time of year. Even the Syfy channel show, Stargate has been the subject of several such gatherings. Cardiff, Wales hosted the first Doctor Who convention since the original series went off the air. People from around the world gathered in the city to celebrate their love of the longest running television series.

No one from this site was able to attend convention. (It would be more likely for the staff to attend the comic book convention in Allentown). Even though no one from our staff attended the convention, plenty of other people were willing to travel thousands of miles for a chance to see Matt Smith, Karen Gillian and even Steven Moffat.

The event featured several discussion panels and even brought in the special effects crew. Some elements resembled the features of the Star Trek conventions that preceded it. Goers showed up in the costumes of villains and major characters from the show.

The gathering started at 9 o'clock in the morning and lasted until 6 o'clock that night. Although it was the first convention for the popular British science fiction series in a long time, it probably will not be an isolated incident. Other conventions were surely follow. And, of course, the Big Bang Theory will continue to make Doctor Who references. US fans may have to wait a while before a dedicated doctor who convention makes its way onto American soil.
