Dan Savage has made negative comments about the Asexual community in the past. The Seattle-based columnist also invited David Jay on his show in an effort to repair his relationship with the Asexual community. MTV Networks announced its plans for the Savage U television show last year.
Reviews of the show mention Savage’s previous commentary. Entertainment columnists spend more time on what Savage has said rather than what h is saying on the show. Asexual News’s staff has not seen the show and cannot comment yet on whether the show is good or bad for the Asexual community. People often jump on a host’s previous comments rather than anything he has said or done afterwards to repair it. As unfortunate gaffes go, Savage’s Asexual dating advice comments do not approach Rush Limbaugh’s recent slip of the tongue. Limbaugh publicly apologized for his comments, but Savage made several attempts to make up for his statements that angered Asexuals.
Commentators occasionally make a comment without knowing how the audience will react to it. Savage has a track record of providing advice that is reasonable in the most offensive way possible.
Asexual News's staff will find a way to watch the show and provide commentary, but readers should not expect this site to criticize the show merely because of its source. The show is intended to provide advice on sex and relationships to college age students. It may or may not use low-brow humor to appeal to the show’s target audience. MTV producers have enough wisdom to air the show after children are supposed to be in bed.
