Writer's note: The column is still written by the same person even though the byline has been changed. I've decided to adopt this name to reflect the recent changes in my identity as well as to have a more convenient name for non-Finnish folks to use, spell and pronounce.
Talking about shotgun weddings. Well, actually, nobody was talking about them, but I am going to... LGBT and Asexuals, coming together? That seems to be one of the hot button issues cropping up constantly and it seems that the side that wants it to happen has the upper hand at the moment. Quite frankly, I do not see why and I'm going to tell you why.

(Publisher's Note: This article has been tampered with many times because of a misunderstanding where someone confused a personal statement with overall site policy. This article will remain published in its current form).
I guess it’s been a long time in the making, but it doesn’t mean that I’m not pretty devastated by it. After all, AVEN was my gateway into the fabulous Asexual community, as it’s probably been to an overwhelming majority of us. But enough is enough and I’m probably not the only one who feels the same way about it.

The past week has been remarkably active when in regards to Asexuality in television drama. First, the head writer of Sherlock says something that he should've considered a bit more and then the grumpy television doctor House with his lackeys disprove the orientation in a patient in one fell swoop. Que the outrage, the petitions and tons of angry blog posts and forum messages. As a pretty darn aggressive advocate of Asexual visibility and the public understanding of the nature of our being, I've been approached to sign many of the petitions and write about the subject in a matter in harsh tones.
But I have not signed a single one of them and I don't plan to do so. And here's why.

I don't usually go with very personal stories in this column, simply because I want it to be about issues and the community rather than some egoistic expression of my personal human experience. But sometimes there's just something out there that I can't help but write more from my own perspective and my own life.
Because, you see, this is the story of how one single shirt changed the direction of my life in a fundamental way.

Random encounter: ”So you don’t have sex, like, ever”?
Me: ”No. Actually, I find the prospect rather disgusting”.
Random encounter: ”That’s so sad”.
Me: ”How on earth is that sad”?
Random encounter: ”You’ll be missing out on so much”.
Me: ”I see... So do you like to eat raw seal flesh carved from its corpse”?
Random encounter: ”Eww, no. That’s disgusting”.
Me: ”Well, that’s all that certain Eskimo tribes eat and enjoy it quite a lot. Isn’t it sad that you’re missing out on so much”?
Random encounter comes to a quick end.
