Richard Nixon, despite his success in building a diplomatic relationship with China is still one of the most disliked presidents of the 20th century. As with other figures who are now too dead to either confirm or deny rumors regarding their sexuality, an author speculates that Nixon might have been gay.
New allegations about Nixon's sexuality are made in a new book by Don Fulsom. Fulsom covered the White House for many years. His career as a radio reporter covering the White House ended during the Clinton administration.
The rumor started in a book by Irish writer Anthony Summers. The accusations center around a story told by Bonnie Angelo. Angelo said she saw former President Nixon pull Charles Rebozo into a picture, according to the Washington Post.
The Washington Post went further in its speculation and added that Nixon may be Bisexual or Asexual into its report, but the opinion columnist said there is little evidence to support Fulsom's assertion.
Nixon did not need to be Gay, Asexual or Heterosexual to have hired the burglars who broke into the Watergate Hotel. He simply needed to have the right – or in this case the wrong – moral character to do so. Nixon had many documented character flaws. Biographers do not need to spread rumors about his sexuality in order to make the former president look worse.
The accusation that Nixon acted macho to cover up Homosexuality or Asexuality is a new twist on an old accusation. The list of Asexual celebrities will not include Nixon any time soon.
