9th Circuit Overturns Proposition 8

The 9th Circuit federal district court struck down California's Proposition 8. Proposition 8 banned same-sex marriage in California, and was backed by the Roman Catholic Church and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. 9th Circuit judges overturned the proposition in a two to one ruling earlier today.

LGBT activists cheer the decision of the court, but the law is not officially off the books. If the supreme court agrees with the 9th Circuit's ruling, it may challenge the validity of all laws banning same-sex marriage.

Striking down the ruling makes marriages legal in California for the moment. If the Supreme Court allows the measure, it may affect other states that have banned same-sex marriage.

Yes No According to the two links below, it may not challenge the validity of other states' laws banning same-sex marriage; it only affects to states that allowed it before banning it.
