Anonymous has started its own controversial campaigns in the past. The Internet-based group started a campaign against the Church of Scientology in 2008. A warning to the group threatens that Anonymous will strike a blow from which the church can never recover.
Members of the Westboro Baptist church issued their own response challenging the Hackers to “bring it on”. The Kansas church issued a statement that God will protect them from the attacks yesterday.
“The only reason the Internet exists is for Wesboro Baptist Church to tell this nation and this world that your destruction draws nigh,” claims the response. Members of WBC started picketing funerals of dead service members after the start of the second Persian Gulf war.
Reverend Fred Phelps leads the church which belongs to no official Baptist convention. Most of the 75 members of the Kansas based church are members of Phelps’s extended family. Neither group has stated an official position on Asexuality.
