Keith Ablow Accuses British Parents of Abuse for Not Raising Child With Gendered Stereotypes

Doctor Keith Ablow drew criticism over his reaction fo Chaz Bono's appearance of Dancing with the Stars. The doctor resigned from the American Psychiatric Association because of the controversy his comments about Chaz Bono generated. He made similar comments on the Howard Stern's radio show. Ablow is a regular contributor to Fox News.

Ablow accused a set of British parents of child abuse for concealing the gender of a child until he was old enough to decide for himself. Ablow confuses biological sex with gender. Ablow called the decision of the parents worse than physical abuse. The doctor compared raising a child without gender preferences with forcing a child not to write with the right or left hand.

The parents revealed Sasha's biological gender because the child entered school. Sasha is allowed to wear boy's pants and girl's blouses because the parents do not wish the child to buy into media-enforced stereotypes.

Ablow's confusion with gender and biological sex continued when he said that the child should be raised to be comfortable with his body. Transgender people grow up feeling an innate discomfort with their bodies. The discomfort transgender people feel is reinforced by media representation of gender.

The child will know on his own if his gender does not match his physical sex. He will pursue corrective action on his own if he needs to do so. Suggesting that Sasha is a pawn in a twisted psychological experiment of his parents ignores the realities. Media coverage of this story has ignored how the child feels.
