Trevor Project Seeks More Asexual Resources

Phoenix Schneider, a representative for the Trevor Project, met with Sara Beth Brooks and David Jay at Creating Change 2012. The Trevor Project provides suicide prevention materials for LGBT youth. The topic of Asexuality and mental health has been covered only briefly, but a recent study indicates that the incidence of mental health problems is not higher in the Asexual community and is not at an elevated risk of suicide.

“We are looking to incorporate some content about the Asexual community and around the most appropriate way to talk to youth who identify as Asexual or who might be questioning/exploring. We would also love to get some resources that we can add to our database on our website and for volunteers to refer youth to on the Lifeline,” wrote Schneider in an e-mail to Asexual News.

The Trevor Project works to prevent suicide among LGBT Youth. The Trevor Project also offers a series of videos on Youtube. Several “It Gets Better” videos point to the Trevor Project as a resource. The “It Gets Better” project is the work of Dan Savage and his partner.
