Asexuals do not have higher rates of clinical depression and suicidal ideation

A study was done about suicidal ideation, sexual attraction, self harm and depression in New Zealand High School students.

The study required everyone taking it to identify themselves as either male or female. And in the sexal orientation question, the students were asked if they were sexually attracted to the same sex, opposite sex, both or neither or unsure. Around 2% said neither. (2.4% those 15 or younger and 0.7% of those 16 or older).

Libigel named top 100 investigational drugs despite changes to HSDD definition

Biosante continues its plans to produce Libigel, a treatment for HSDD in post menopausal women. Unlike the other companies who are pursuing a treatment for this disorder that will become a male-only psychological disorder in 2013, Biosante is not targeting its low-dose testosterone gel. The drug earned the title of Top 100 Investigational drugs, according to the PR News Wire.

The gel has not yet hit the market, but investors have decided that it is likely to win FDA approval and become the first drug approved for treating the lowered sex drive that occurs naturally after women go through menopause. The drug is not being marketed to younger women who have low sex drive or do not feel a desire for sex.

Ace Prom takes place tomorrow

Aces who want to participate in a blog event where they take someone to the prom only have one more day to do so. A reader on the other side of the world may read this well after the event has already passed. The idea behind Ace Prom is that younger Asexuals could post pictures of who they would like to attend such an event with. Older Asexuals could participate in the event as well.

The event caused some controversy and friction with LGBT groups who felt that Asexuals were trying to appropriate an LGBT symbol. The event organizers denied this and said it was modeled after the Tumblr prom.

Ace Prom causes unintended controversy

The Ace Prom was a simple Tumblr event that followed on the heels of the Tumblr prom. It was not meant to be an alternative prom for Asexuals, although people quickly criticized it for being so. The event will take place on September 9th, despite the criticism that it has drawn.

The criticism, thankfully, seems to have kept itself limited to the popular microblogging and social networking site. Critics quickly accused the event of trying to present itself as an Alternative prom, similar to the ones held by Gays and Lesbians.
