Sara Beth Brooks identified as Bisexual until a relationship with her former fiance ended. The details of her experience are found in a Marie Claire article. Shortly after her failed attempt at marital bliss, she became involved with the Asexual community. She brings skills learned as a marriage equality activist.
“The LGBT community is our strongest natural ally,”Brooks told Asexual News in a Skype interview this Sunday. She and AVEN founder David Jay have cultivated contacts with LGBT groups.
AVEN and other Asexual activist groups target 5 groups to meet their goals. The 5 groups targeted are the mainstream media, the LGBT community, Academia, the Medical community and the Sex Positive community. Reaching out to the sex positive community, which includes sex educators, may seem counterintutivie, but it is a vital step in informing people about Asexuality. The 5-prong approach to Asexual activism was developed by David Jay.
