Asexual Awareness Week committee issues second call for volunteers

Sara Beth Brooks, the organizer of Asexual Awareness Week, made the call for initial volunteers several months ago. People responded to the initial call and another call went out for the logo design.
Although the final week is not until late October, volunteers are still needed to plan the events of the week. Volunteers will decide what the theme of the week is, in the upcoming months. Asexual Awareness Week was started to help spread Asexual visibility and awareness. Volunteers can use the e-mail address in the video listed above.
Oklahama kills anti-bullying bill

The Oklahoma state legislature rejected an anti-bullying measure by a vote of 52-44. The media has brought more attention to bullying cases after Rutger's University student, Tyler Clementi, found a video of himself engaging in a sex act on the Internet. The measure would have required schools to report the success of their anti-bullying efforts to the state legislature, according to LGBTQNation.
Asexual Sexologist May poll focuses on violent and non-violent oppression

The Asexual Sexologist website posted a new poll for the Month of May. The new survey focuses on violent and non-violent oppression. As with the April survey, the recent survey is done for informational purposes. The finished results, like the results of April, will not be used for Academic purposes.

New survey asks for Asexual participants

A student at the Universidade de Aveiro is conducting a study on the role of psychosocial values on Asexuality. Diana Nemos, under the direction of Pedro Norton, PhD. The study focuses on personality, relationship satisfaction, psychopathology, sexual beliefs, thoughts and emotions during sexual activity.
Posters on AVEN, where the poll was announced, found difficulty with the sexual beliefs question of the poll. Other posters felt the survey tried to pigeonhole them into a belief. The poll takes 30 to 45 minutes to complete. The English version of the survey has a few language problems, but the person can follow it easy.
The wording of the English poll is awkward at times, but the user can easily figure out what the makers of the poll meant.
Hypersexuality in the DSM: A threat to constitutional rights

The controversial proposal of adding Hypersexual Disorder to the DSM must be seen against so-called Sexually Violent Predator (SVP) commitment, in which 20 US states and US Federal Government label some sex offenders as “sexually violent predators”, (or a similar term) in order to detain them after completing their prison sentences, although no violent behavior is actually required for this designation. If this were further punishment, it would be unconstitutional, so these people are being held not for anything they have done, but for some future crime they may or may not commit if released. SVP commitment is extremely expensive, does little to decrease sexual violence and our ability to predict future crime is not very good.
