Asexual Sexologist posts new poll for April

The Asexual Sexologist puts up a new poll at the beginning of each month. Not every poll on the site is related to research projects. April poll concerns dating and sexual/asexual relationships. Readers can get the best idea of what the intent of the current survey is by visiting the Asexual Sexologist site and filling out the poll.

“With the responses to this survey I would like to be able to write an article about the similarities and differences between aces and non-aces when it comes to hopes and fears about being completely honest with a partner/close friend. Eventually I may also use this to help me write a 'so your partner/friend came out to you as Asexual... now what'? type of article,” wrote Brysen in a recent e-mail to the people who on her mailing lists.

People who are sexual and Asexual know the difficulties and the strains of mixed relationships. Brysen collects the responses. Users who agree to be quoted may find their responses appear on Twitter. If you want to take the survey, follow this link.

Western Carolina UNITY group to sponsor anti-bullying event

Note: This article is part of a series Asexual News is running on bullying. Read the other installments here;

Stephen’s Story

Unity, a student group at Western Carolina University plans to hold a “Day of Silence” on April 15. Zachary Reed, president of the UNITY group has invited Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Intersex, Transgendered and Asexual individuals to join him in the event, according to MountainX.com.

What makes UNITY’s attempt unique was the inclusion of groups not normally included in LGBT bullying discussions. While bullying can happen to anyone and does not happen to anyone group exclusively, Asexual people have often been left out of the discussions based on the assumption that Asexuals do not get bullied because of their orientation. As many Asexuals know, an Asexual may get bullied because of perceived social awkwardness or perceived orientation.

The proposed Day of Silence asks participants what they plan to do to end the silence. An event dubbed the ‘not-so-silent’ march will start at 5 p.m. Students gathered around the fountain plan to engage in screaming and yelling when the march ends around Sunset.

Dan Savage gets his own show on MTV. Maggie Gallagher, Lutheran Minister Respond

Dan Savage, the author of the Savage Love column, is getting his own show on MTV. Asexual News reported this earlier, but producers for MTV have moved the proposed late night television show beyond the tentative stages. College cameras are following the controversial pod casting shock jock on his college campus tours around the country, according to Parezhilton.com

Savage crossed paths with members of the Asexual community by presenting the strange idea that Asexuals are trying to trap sexual people into relationships. An odd idea he perpetuated the second time he gave the advice. Members of the Asexual community criticized Savage for the way his attitude was presented, rather than the advice its self. Savage responded by claiming angry Asexual bloggers had mischracterized his position.

The new show has not gone un challenged. Maggie Gallagher of the National Organization for Marriage questioned MTVs judgment in selecting the Savage Love columnist to give relationship advice to Teenagers. Gallagher quotes a Lutheran minister who questions the columnists absolute honesty ethic in relationships, according to the Nom blog. More important than Maggie Gallaghers response is the response from a Lutheran Minister who points out where following the columnists advice might lead.
