Vitriolic debates between the Gay and Lesbian community and the Asexual communiy spring up from time to time, and these heated debates show no signs of stopping. Asexual News has commented on a few of these arguments in the past year.
The most recent example is when Bill Samuels, the JAGTAB blogger who insulted both Asexuals and people with disabilities in a post he made three years ago, decided to comment on the post again. Even a comment or two has suggested that Aces stop piggybacking onto the LGBT movement. The reason for piggybacking was simple. AVEN does not have the resources well-established LGBT activists groups do.
The groups sometimes feud because of the similarity of AVEN's symbol to the upside down pink triangle used by Gay advocates. Asexuals already know AVEN's symbol is an upside down shaded triangle. The symbol resembles another symbol used by the Gay Pride movement, although what the symbols are supposed to represent are different. AVEN founder David Jay chose the triangle shape to show that there is more to sexuality than being Gay, Straight, or Bisexual. The triangle simply shows a new dimension. A more accurate representation may be a diamond, but AVEN has used the triangle symbol for more than a decade. The staff rarely receives criticism for their stance on LGBT issues.
