One Year Of Not Reporting That Asexuals Exist

Asexual News celebrated its first anniversary yesterday. A number of media outlets have done “Asexuals exist” stories in that time. The "Asexuals Exist" articles increase visibility and awareness, but they frequently do not interest the staff. For some reason, it is very hard to convince a group of Asexuals that their existence is news.

There were a number of times when a major news outlet has covered the existence of Asexuality and this site made the choice not to make any mention of it. Exceptions to this rule have been made if a media outlet's  treatment of Asexuality was novel or offensive.

Dan Savage is the most prominent example from the previous year. Bouts with Dan Savage died down when Savage reached out to AVEN founder David Jay. Another memorable example of inappropriate treatment took place on Australia's Morning Show. The Morning show hosts giggled like school girls throughout an entire segment on Asexuality.

The decision  not to report on Asexuals exist stories means that this site occasionally turns down relevant content. Finding relevant content is a challenge for a site that must produce new content every day, regardless of what the site covers. News reports on the existence of Asexuals need to stop being news so that more important discussions of Asexual issues can take place.
